Fuel reduction means thinning out the brush, dead material, and overgrowth that have been building up across your property, sometimes for years. The less fuel there is on the ground, the slower a fire moves and the lower it stays, which is exactly what you want when it reaches your land.
We’re firefighter-led, so we look at a property and see where the fire would run and what’s feeding it. Fuel reduction is about taking that feed away.

What builds up
Dead and downed limbs, dried brush, overgrown shrubs, needle and leaf litter, and stands of small trees packed too tight. On acreage it accumulates quietly until there's a heavy, continuous fuel bed that will carry fire straight across the property.
How we reduce it
We clear and thin the brush layer, remove dead and downed material, break up continuous fuel beds so fire can’t run unchecked, and thin overcrowded small trees. Everything we cut gets chipped or hauled, so the work leaves the property cleaner rather than trading one hazard for another.
On larger parcels we prioritize, focusing first on the areas closest to structures and access routes, then working outward.
Fuel reduction and defensible space
Fuel reduction is a big part of the middle and outer defensible space zones. If you’re planning defensible space or looking at a DNR or Firewise cost-share project, this is usually a core piece of the work.
Frequently asked questions
How is fuel reduction different from a regular cleanup?
A cleanup tidies the yard. Fuel reduction is done with fire behavior in mind, targeting the material that would actually carry and feed a wildfire, and breaking up the continuous fuel that lets it spread.
How often does it need doing?
Fuel builds back over time, so mitigation isn't strictly one-and-done. Many owners have us back periodically to keep the fuel load down, especially after a few growing seasons.
Can you handle large acreage?
Yes. We take on large-acreage projects and prioritize the highest-risk areas first.
